Soil Health

Bridging European Soil Standards with Ground-Level Remediation

Delivering sovereign data harmonization, EEA EIONET compliance, and specialized engineering for contaminated land restoration

Healthy soil is the foundation of clean water, food security, and climate resilience, yet land degradation and historical industrial contamination present significant challenges across Southeast Europe. Bridging sovereign environmental policy with cutting-edge engineering, this organization translates the European Union’s evolving environmental mandates into tangible field solutions.

Working in close institutional synergy with the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency (AMMK) and aligning with European Environment Agency (EEA) methodologies, the platform serves as a multi-stakeholder nexus, uniting scientific research, regulatory compliance, public education, and field remediation to achieve Zero Pollution goals.

Activities
Information-based Strategies for Land Remediation (ISLANDR)

The Information-based Strategies for Land Remediation, in short ISLANDR, is a multidisciplinary project, which is aimed at supporting the execution of the EU mission: A Soil Deal for Europe.

ISLANDR brings a dedicated focus to low input remediation through 7 test areas, including sites impacted by the green transition, such as former mining areas. This will ensure that soil remediation will be facilitated even when the cost of remediation is economically marginal or may even be negative.

IPA III - Soil assessment - Kosovo - Assessment of the number of potentially contaminated sites in Kosovo (XK)

Project supported Kosovo to improve its baseline of potentially contaminated sites and thus help to improve current contaminated sites’ management.

The project also supported Kosovo to improve the knowledge base and reporting of the respective EEA indicator (LSI003, site status 1).

Strengthening Soil Monitoring & Environmental Protection in Kosovo

The Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency (KEPA / AMMK) and the Institute for Sustainable Development of Natural Resources (iRN) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance technical cooperation in soil monitoring, assessment, and reporting.

Through this partnership, over period 2026 - 2028, iRN will provide technical expertise to support AMMK in fulfilling key environmental commitments aligned with the European Environment Agency (EEA) and the European Environment Information and Observation Network (EIONET).
